Retrofitting a robot to an existing press brake is a relatively new approach. It immediately
cuts the cost of automating by utilizing existing press brakes.

Automated bending has traditionally been approached by machine tool builders in two
ways. A fabricator could either buy a complete cell that consisted of a robot and press
brake integrated at the factory with various peripheral devices or the traditional panel
bender with the C-shaped tool holder for wiping flanges up or down and a manipulator at
the front for positioning the sheet. Both options are expensive and in the case of the cell,
compelled buyers to buy a new press brake.

Paramount will complete very basic modifications to the machine in order to make it
compatible with the robot interface while maintaining the ability to operate it manually.
